Started having trouble with the shift knob. Ugh. After finding several utube videos and lots of internet searching found this shift lever knob. Removed the old clip (that faces the dashboard) - it looks like a huge staple, pulls right out with a flat screwdriver (thank you utube video person), pulled the knob off, slid the new knob on, re-inserted the clip. Voila, works perfectly. No complaints. Very happy. Back to our lives now.
I can see others had good experiences with this, but I did not. I examined it to begin with in comparison to the broken one I had and noticed right away this is a lot more cheaply made than the original. The button and spring action were looser and cheaper feeling, as was the vinyl. But, it is to be expected on and aftermarket part and I was ready to ignore that because I needed it right away. We are also talking about a 14 year old car, so I was ready to deal. But, it wouldn't fit even tapping with a rubber mallet or trying to install with the car in gear. So, I am paying around $10 or so more to get one from the dealership tomorrow. Really though, even if this part did fit, I think it is only worth about $25 if I can get a factory OEM one for $45 (and can be found cheaper online including Amazon's whose is even cheaper than this (but not eligible for Prime),..
I had my clip from the previous knob. When I popped this on my Cavalier it felt like it didn't really need the clip the way it snapped into place. I did install mine with the old clip which was very difficult to install, I had to hammer it in with a mallet with the clip sitting at just the right position. Feels very solid. You're probably okay if you don't have the clip. This was more affordable than other online places I checked.
My auto shifter knob on my '04 Cavalier felt really loose and sloppy. I first tried replacing the clip that looks like a big staple but the old knob was actually cracked so it didn't help much. After replacing the knob with this it feels brand new again.
So my shifter handle broke on my car, I went to several car parts places and they did not have in stock but could order it. I was quoted between $37 $ $47 but would take between 2-4 days to ship. I believe the $37 quote did not include $10 for shipping. Found product on Amazon for $22 plus tax..so $30 ish total and ship to my door in a couple days...free! At first I though is was missing a piece (a pin to put it in place) but it was not...guess that is an internal piece that broke in my old one. Needless to say popped that sucker on and working like a charm!

Fit exactly as I expected it to. If you dont have the retainer clip and dont want it to slide off, you need to buy that separate. I found it on amazon for 6 bucks, which seemed a little pricey for what it is.
