- Purchased this for my 2005 Honda Accord EXL
- Looked on Youtube on how to remove/install the part (great/easy videos on Youtube)
- Search for "honda accord gear shift button"
- Took me less than ten minutes to change out. All you need is a phillips screw driver to take out two small screws
- Works/Fits perfect
Note: When you take out the old part, there will be white grease (for lubrication) over the plastic casing. Since the new package does not come with any lubrication and you probably don't have any in the garage, you can just steal some grease from the old broken part and rub it on the new part. You really need lubricant because you have plastic parts rubbing against each other. I had Tri-Flow lubricant so I put on several drops in each area. Also, keep the old spring in case you need it in the future.
Easiest repair I've ever done in my life. I'm not that mechanically inclined but following the step by step video by this same seller APDTY. , search " How To Repair / Replace A Broken Or Stuck Shifter Shift Handle Button Knob On 2003-2006 Honda Accord " on youtube.
The repair is slightly easier on 2004 Accord (and presumably '05 and '06) as there is a plastic guide that keeps the metal shifter rod in place.
After my shift knob disintegrated (I can't even count the hundreds of pieces the "plastic" broke into) in a parking lot, while on my lunch break... it took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to even get into park or reverse.....
I ordered this item.. watched the video.. 2 days later, it arrives.. genuine honda parts.. they included the spring, which is not necessary.. but if for whatever reason you bent the old spring (or lost it)... you've got a new one.. followed the video... and 5 minutes later.. as good as new.. but really hopefully better... as the "plastic" Honda used the first time around was pure garbage
this item runs slightly more expensive vs other listings due to extra spring , but really for the 2 day shipping... which is well worth it... as I was needed 2 hands to "shift"... one to move the shifter.. and the other one to stick my thumb into the slot and depress the shift rod......
5* stars... my only slight concern was that the new knob is made of 50% recycled material.. but let's hope that it was recycled plastic this time around
included the old shiny knob for comparison
Exactly what I needed and was super easy to install,, a suggestion to anyone who isn't sure if they need the Shift Button Plastic Bezel handle
The button did not fit my vehicle despite its stated year, make, and model compatibility. It was not even close; the wing guides that extend down the shift groove were way too large. Hoping to salvage the piece, I carefully filed them down, added a little industrial grease, and _did_ manage to get it to fit, even to slide relatively smoothly, but then it was evident that the button's spring or other pressure mechanism was not sufficiently powerful to lower the shaft enough to trigger the ignition lock release when putting the car into park. I needed other unrelated work done my car so I just let my (very trusted) mechanic take care of the issue, and he told me that the button was definitely not compatible.
This is one of those situations where being an Amazon Prime member really paid off for me! I was about to head out to the dealer to have this part replaced and I'm so glad I never went. Part was already on my front door the next day. Like other reviewers have mentioned, I searched for APDTY's 5min. YouTube video and had it replaced in under 10 minutes! One side note: I wasn't able to remove the knob's outer cover as quick and easy as the guy on the video. This outer cover is made out of plastic and even though it broke on top, I was still able to snap it back in place. Included with the button is a spring which was not needed but its included just in case. I was lucky the original button broke evenly and didn't left any small pieces inside the knob otherwise make sure to remove those tiny broken pieces before placing the new button. Overall, I'm so pleased with this purchase I'm considering buying an extra one for any future repairs!

This part was exactly what I needed. I got it in one day with Prime shipping. The old gear shifter button was completely deteriorated. I thought I was going to have to take this to a repair shop or the dealer to get this fixed. After watching the APDTY video, I just saved myself probably between $100 - $150 dollars by fixing it myself. It took me about 15 minutes. The biggest problem I had was getting the bottom plastic piece off the shifter handle. The video shows it coming off pretty easy but for some reason, mine was stuck on.
I would suggest that you clean out the piece where all the broken parts are very thoroughly. I had so many little broken pieces of plastic, I can't believe the shifter was still even working. I have to say, this was a bad design by Honda. Not sure if all that lithium grease they put in there isn't the cause for the plastic shifter breaking down. These parts should have been made out of medal, even aluminum would have been better than plastic but after 14 years and 170,000 miles, I guess I can live with it. At least now it's back to new and works great! Thanks APDTY! 5 STARS PLUS!!!
