My 2011 GTI with DSG transmission was not letting me remove the key after turning off the engine. Some searching on the Internet suggested that this could be due to the gearshift lever not completely allowing the switch to register that the car was in park. Other people suggested that this could be remedied by replacing the gear shift selector. The replacement part from VW was around $300 and replaced the entire center assembly. I thought I would give this one a try to see if it solved the issue and it did! Install took about an hour. Just a word of warning you’ll need a strong zip tie to attach the leather to the shift knob. You’ll also need a pair of pincer pliers to crimp the ring in place but you can find those for around $12. All in all this was not a tough job and it looks as good as new. There’s no way to tell that this is not factory.
